Brown Marmorated Stink Bug (BMSB) Season 2024

The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry have finalised the seasonal measures for the 2024-25 high risk season. Effective sailing on or after the 1st September 2024, all target high risk cargo manufactured in or shipped from target risk countries must be treated by an approved treatment provider.

Targeted goods manufactured in, and shipped from target risk countries, and/or

Vessels that berth at, load or tranship from target risk countries.

The BMSB risk season is for goods that have been shipped between 1 September 2024 and 30 April 2025 (inclusive), and Vessels that berth, load or tranship from target risk countries within the same period. Goods must be treated for BMSB if exported between 1 September 2024 and 30 April 2025 (inclusive).

To summarise

• If your goods are classed as target high risk, they will require mandatory treatment.

• If your goods are classed as target risk, they will be subject to random inspection.

• If your goods are not found in either category, they are not subject to BMSB measures, however, will be subject to the measures if packed with target high risk or risk goods, and/or random unpacks and inspections.

China/Republic of Korea and Japan, this season, have been categorised as Emerging Risk Countries”, with set periods of random onshore inspections for both Countries. 

For all cargo requiring treatment, Hexagon Logistics will be tailoring individual plans with each importer, to best suit theirs and the Departments requirements.
